I am nominating myself for the role of Board Member at Large with the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV), driven by both my professional involvement with DV survivors since 2018 and my own lived experiences. These perspectives have not only deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by survivors but have also fueled my passion for creating meaningful change in the DV landscape of California. My commitment to the mission of CPEDV is personal and professional, underlined by a steadfast belief in the transformative power of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
My journey has taught me the importance of ensuring that all voices, especially those historically marginalized or silenced, are heard and valued in our collective efforts to end domestic violence. As a Member at Large, I aspire to leverage my unique insights, along with my skills in advocacy and strategic planning, to contribute to the Board’s governance. This role presents a vital opportunity for me to actively participate in shaping policies and strategies that are inclusive and representative of the diverse communities we serve.
I see this position as a platform for growth, learning, and active contribution. It aligns with my dedication to not just advocate for survivors but to also work towards systemic changes that address the root causes of domestic violence. My lived experience, combined with my professional background, positions me to offer valuable perspectives on the Board, ensuring our efforts are grounded in the realities of those we aim to support.
In committing to this role, I am eager to collaborate with fellow Board members and CPEDV staff to enhance our organization’s impact. I am particularly passionate about advancing DEI within our governance and operational strategies, ensuring that we move forward with a mission that truly represents and uplifts every voice affected by domestic violence in California.
This nomination represents my readiness to deepen my involvement and to use my voice and actions to make a significant difference. Together, we can build a future where domestic violence no longer exists, supported by policies and practices that are equitable, just, and inclusive.
How does this person’s values align with the Partnership, including centering underrepresented voices?
Aligning my values with the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence is rooted in our shared commitment to creating systemic change and fostering a California free from domestic violence. My dedication to this cause is deeply personal, enriched by my own lived experiences and professional journey in the domestic violence space and its intersections.
This unique perspective fuels my drive to contribute intentionally to the Partnership’s mission, leveraging my understanding of the barriers of domestic violence advocacy and support.
The Partnership’s comprehensive approach-encompassing public policy, prevention, communications, and capacity-building programs-resonates with my belief in a multi-faceted strategy to address and end domestic violence. My passion lies not only in advocacy and policy change but also in the empowerment and restoration of survivors and their families. I am committed to using my voice, expertise, and energy to further the Partnership’s work, recognizing that our collective efforts are vital in making lasting societal changes.
I believe that integrating DEI into every aspect of our work is crucial for truly understanding and addressing the intersectionality of domestic violence.
This means ensuring that our efforts are not just about responding to incidents of violence, but also about preventing them by challenging and changing the systemic inequalities that perpetuate domestic violence. My commitment will help ensure that our strategies are holistic, encompassing the varied experiences of all survivors, particularly those from communities that are often overlooked.
My professional background, coupled with my personal journey, positions me uniquely to contribute to the Partnership’s strategic direction, resource development, and community impact. I am particularly interested in engaging with the Board’s work through committees such as Engagement and Race, Power & Privilege where I can offer my insights and leadership.
In nominating myself for the Board, I see an opportunity to not only contribute my skills and experience but also to grow alongside a diverse group of leaders dedicated to ending domestic violence. My goal is to work collaboratively, respecting and valuing the myriad perspectives within the Board, to foster consensus and drive forward our shared vision for a California free from domestic violence.
Describe your participation in the Partnership’s regional networks, policy committees, peer learning circles and other components of our Membership community.
As an active member of the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, I am deeply engaged in several components of the Membership community. I serve on the leadership team of the DVHF Peer Learning Circle, where I contribute my insights and experiences to facilitate discussions and foster collaboration among peers. Additionally, I actively participate in the Cali Table Talks community, engaging in conversations and initiatives aimed at advancing our collective efforts to end domestic violence. Furthermore, I have attended Building Change Together (BCT) trainings, where I have enhanced my skills and knowledge to better support survivors and advocate for systemic change. Through my involvement in these forums, I continuously strive to learn, grow, and contribute to our shared mission of creating a California free from domestic violence.
Describe your skills, experience or interests that can benefit, strengthen or increase capacity of the Board.
With extensive experience in managing of a Domestic Violence Housing First program in Los Angeles County and a graduate level education in Public Administration, I offer a unique skill set to enhance the Board’s capacity. My expertise lies in housing programs tailored for survivors, coupled with leadership roles in facilitating nationwide training initiatives with agencies such as FNUSA, equips me to advocate for survivor-centered policies and innovative solutions. I possess strategic planning, policy analysis, and organizational management skills vital for effective governance. By leveraging my experience and education, I aim to contribute to shaping policies, enhancing organizational effectiveness, and advancing the mission of the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence.
What does leadership mean to you? How do you demonstrate leadership?
To me, leadership means inspiring and empowering others towards a shared vision, fostering collaboration, and driving positive change. I demonstrate leadership by leading by example, listening actively, and cultivating a culture of inclusivity and accountability. I strive to inspire and motivate my team, encourage innovative thinking, and mentor others to reach their full potential. Leadership also involves making tough decisions with integrity, being adaptable in challenging situations, and continuously learning and growing as a leader.
Describe how your relationships can enhance the work of the Partnership and the Board (for example, with policy-makers, media outlets, culturally specific communities, and the broader community). Tell us how you intend to cultivate those relationships on behalf of the Partnership.
My extensive relationships across various sectors can greatly
enhance the work of the Partnership and the Board. With
policy-makers, I aim to advocate for survivor centered policies
by leveraging my experience and insights. With media outlets, I
will amplify the voices of survivors and raise awareness about
domestic violence issues. Culturally specific communities will
benefit from my understanding and respect for diverse
perspectives. Donors will be engaged through strategic
storytelling and highlighting the impactful work of the
Partnership. I intend to cultivate these relationships through
active engagement, transparent communication, and mutual respect,
ensuring that the Partnership remains a trusted and effective
advocate for survivors and their families.
