Associate Director of Public Policy Strategies

Profile

headshot of Chrischris@cpedv.org | Chris Negri (he/him) is the Associate Director of Public Policy Strategies at the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence. Working with Partnership staff, members, and allied organizations, he hopes to contribute to policy victories that fund prevention work, improve the lives of survivors, and address critical problems such as the financial and housing insecurity that survivors often face. He is particularly passionate about and dedicated to working on child welfare issues, mindful of the harm that the child welfare system often inflicts on children and families affected by domestic violence, particularly youth of color and LGBTQ+ young people.

Prior to joining the Partnership, Chris served as Program Director at Equality California Institute, managing the organization’s schools and youth-facing programming and supporting work on public health, hate crimes prevention, intervention, and postvention, civic engagement, and other issue areas. In his time at Equality California, he engaged with more than 100 school districts across the state and with county offices of education and the state department of education to support policy implementation around safe and supportive schools issues, including anti-bullying policies, inclusive curriculum, and issues specific to transgender and gender non-conforming students.

A former Special Education teacher, Chris has spent the majority of his career working in education. He has managed dual language immersion programs and compliance for a schools network, handled grant writing and reporting for a center at the University of Southern California, and co-led an initiative to create scholarship opportunities for displaced and refugee Syrian students.

Chris holds a BA in History from UC Riverside, an MA in Special Education from Loyola Marymount, and an MPP from the University of Southern California. He’s also a graduate of the Education for Ministry program at Sewanee: The University of the South and serves as a part-time lay minister and program coordinator for Catholic students at Occidental College. Outside of work, he’s the father of infant twins and enjoys long, audiobook-fueled stroller walks at 6:00 am.
