Getting Ready for Teen Dating Violence Awareness & Prevention Month AND Introducing Our New #PreventionAcrossCA Interactive Story Platform
This webinar was held on November 19, 2020.
Teen Dating Violence Awareness & Prevention Month
This has been a heavy year for many youth—and for the same reason, it’s also one that has been rich with activism. Young people are dealing with many stressors, including adapting to virtual learning, isolation, depression, financial struggles, and more—all on top of gender and racial oppression that harmfully impacts self-confidence and relationships. At the same time, youth consciousness is blooming into action to create change, as seen in the article Hit Hard by Pandemic, Youth of Color are Leading Activism, New Poll Finds. They are aware of inequities in social structures, and how they’re set up.
By centering youth wisdom and expertise, we can create the foundation for our Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month campaigns. We’d love to hear about your plans! How are you challenging adultism and using your privilege to connect youth with decision makers in public policy and education? How are young people illuminating the need to align with racial justice movements like Black Lives Matter? How is COVID continuing to impact their lives and activism? Let’s talk about it!
In addition to this open dialogue, we’ll discuss some of the key elements of the Partnership’s campaign: Youth in the Lead. This is all about elevating young people’s stories of preventing teen dating violence, advocating for healthy relationships, healing from trauma, and engaging in interconnected forms of social justice. On our call, we’ll have a special focus on asking preventionists what outreach and curricula tools they need to create welcoming spaces for youth.
#PreventionAcrossCA Interactive Story Platform
As preventionists, you know that healthy relationships at every level of society create the foundation of communities where everyone has what they need to thrive. In the time of COVID-19, when inequities have intensified, relationships across sectors is more important than ever. Soon, we’ll debut a new, mobile ready story platform that can help encourage community partners to use their strengths in service of violence prevention!
Your interactive platform, #PreventionAcrossCA, puts these community partners in the driver’s seat of specific scenarios where they can effect social change. Afterward, they’ll be introduced to a number of resources that they can use in real life! During this second part of our Prevention Peer Network discussion, we’ll walk you through the platform, our first story, and its companion guide and resources. As the people leading prevention where you live, we’d be especially grateful for your feedback on its usefulness and areas that could be improved.
